25 for 25: The power of purpose
Tapping into your book’s deeper purpose will help keep you on track and committed to the journey amid all of the hurdles and road bumps.
This essay is part of my 25 for 25 book writing series. The lessons in this series are meant to simplify the book writing and production journey. You can find a guide with links to the entire series here.
What is your purpose?
What is your goal?
What is your dream?
And how can writing a book help you get there?
If you can answer these questions, writing your book is going to be a whole lot easier, because you’re going to envision the end goal and see the bigger picture—the book as a lead generator, platform builder, and life goal.
As my friend Jonathan Stanley wrote in his inspiring book Purposeful Performance: The Secret Mix of Connecting, Leading, and Succeeding, purpose “will fill you with so much pride and satisfaction—you’re thinking big and helping the world and doing something bigger than yourself. And with purpose as your North Star, you’ll never feel disengaged from your work again.”
There are so many great reasons for writing a book and so many awesome outcomes that can result. But without tapping into your why, without challenging or questioning your purpose for writing your book, it’s easier for you to set the book aside and walk away because it will simply be too challenging.
Tapping into your book’s deeper purpose will help keep you on track and committed to the journey amid all of the hurdles and road bumps.
It’s going to motivate you to find a way forward, no matter the time, stress, struggle or cost.
A good book is much more than a clump of glue-bound, laser-printed pages. A book is a pathway for you to achieve your purpose, attain your goal, and reach your dream.
So let me ask again:
What is your purpose?
What is your goal?
What is your dream?
